Happy New Year to all WIA parents/carers and students. We are really looking forward to welcoming students back to Term 3 tomorrow, Thursday 4th January 2018 (Week 1) when we will be commencing ‘The Winterbourne Way’. The Winterbourne Way document was sent to all parents earlier in December and we attach a further copy for your information. Student assemblies were held prior to the Christmas break to explain our expectations for preparing everyone for successful learning and staff have been working hard over the past two days getting ready for these changes; however, we also need your support to ensure that students are fully aware and ready from the very start of Term 3. Please can we ask you to spend a few moments looking at this document and reminding your child of these expectations. One of our major changes is with regards to the use of mobile phones. In line with other schools within the Olympus Trust, Winterbourne is adopting a ‘NO MOBILE PHONE’ policy across the site with immediate effect. Students (and staff) must turn off all mobile phones and electronic devices on arrival at the Academy, and not switch them on until they leave at the end of the school day (this includes break and lunch). Items can be stored in their bags, blazers or lockers but MUST be switched off. Students found using devices will have the equipment confiscated and placed securely in Main Reception, where they can be collected at the end of the day. Refusal to surrender a confiscated device will result in a Senior Leadership detention. Post-16 students may use electronic devices for study purposes in the sixth form common room or study areas (excluding corridors, canteen or public spaces). Should parents need to contact their child in an emergency, please call main reception on 01454 252000 and we will ensure that a message is relayed.
