Update about the Future for Winterbourne International Academy
Following what feels like a lengthy period of discussion and negotiation with the Education and Skills Funding Agency and the Department for Education about the support needed for Winterbourne International Academy to join the Olympus Academy Trust, I am delighted to be able to confirm that we have had approval to proceed from all parties this morning. The plan, therefore, is for Winterbourne to join Olympus on 1st February 2018 or as soon after as possible! In the short-term, support and leadership will continue as at present. We will share further details in the New Year.
Teaching School Update
The joint Olympus Academy Trust and Castle School Education Trust Teaching School, with Bradley Stoke Community School as the named lead school, will be known as the North Avon Teaching School Alliance. A presentation and animation are available here to provide background and overview and we are currently recruiting for the first roles to lead and support the Teaching School. This is an exciting time for us and will provide opportunity and support for Winterbourne staff and students.
I have provided an update for Olympus Academy Trust stakeholders this morning which you can access here if you are interested. You will see that it was written before the news about the DfE decision about Winterbourne’s future had been made so a further update will have to follow!
I thoroughly enjoyed attending the first performance of School of Rock on Tuesday evening this week. It epitomised for me how talented Winterbourne students are as well as the quality of support they receive from committed staff to enable them to participate in such an impressive musical production.
I would like to thank you for your continued support. I hope you have a restful break and will look forward to working with you again in 2018.
With best wishes,
Interim CEO, The Ridings’ Federation of Academies
