The Behaviour 4 Learning Centre (B4LC)

B4LC was set up in 2005. The main purpose of the centre is to augment the pastoral/discipline system of the Academy by providing a support base for students whose behavioural, emotional, or physical wellbeing is at risk, making the student vulnerable. The overall aim of B4LC is to successfully reintegrate such students into mainstream education.

B4LC aims to:

Reduce exclusions by retaining students in the Academy.

  • Improve inclusion by supporting the most vulnerable students.

  • Contribute to a whole Academy Inclusion Policy linked to SEN, EWO, BST and Educational Psychology Teams.

  • Support students' learning by identifying behavioural problems and developing strategies to overcome barriers to learning.

  • Provide flexible and part-time provision for students who are having difficulties in certain lessons.

  • Target intervention for groups of students with behavioural problems via specific programmes designed to re-engage students in education.

  • Act as a base for students with attendance issues or a “managed move”, or returning from exclusions.

  • Provide support for students in Year 11 to complete coursework or attempt other qualifications i.e. ALAN (Adult Literacy and Numeracy)

Students supported by B4LC include those who:

  • Have poor anger management skills.

  • Have problems accepting sanctions.

  • Are aggressive, insolent, belligerent.

  • Lack respect for others of themselves.

Curriculum Provision

As far as is practical, students will complete the same work as contemporaries in lessons. Staff are notified of students attending B4LC and a request for work to be sent to the centre.

Reintegration

Staff are informed when a student is returning to lessons. The return can by unsupported, or supported by B4LC depending on the needs of the student.

If you have any questions or queries concerning B4LC, please feel free to contact Mr R Hewkins (B4LC Coordinator) or Mrs M Jones (full-time HLTA support).
