Bienvenue - Willkommen - Bienvenido!

At Winterbourne International Academy we believe in “Languages for all”. We have a large department and currently offer French, German and Spanish as part of the curriculum as well as Mandarin as an after school enrichment activity. Our three full-time language assistants provide students with the opportunity to talk to native speakers and really develop their understanding of different cultures.

In addition, we also offer a number of extra opportunities over the course of the year:

Year 7 Languages Days – a chance to try different languages, get a taste of the culture of different countries and to have some fun.
Year 9 and 10 visit to Le Château du Broutel near Rue in France in early Summer
Trip to Germany for years 8-10
Year 9 taster sessions in different languages – to encourage students to consider taking two languages at GCSE level we give them the chance to experience the two languages that they haven’t yet tried. This takes place just before Christmas and gives students the opportunity to learn a little about the Christmas traditions of other countries as well.
Visit to Andalucía for the Years 8,9 and 10 Spanish groups
Language Club – run throughout the year for all students to experience different cultures
Year 12 visit to UWE – an opportunity for all students studying a language in Year 12 to experience life at university as well as having a taste of a new language such as Italian, Cantonese or Urdu.
Opportunities for students in Years 12 and 13 to do work experience abroad
Visiting theatre groups – we hope to offer students learning French in Year 10 and 11 the chance to watch a performance of “Roméo et Juliette Revisité” this autumn.
Links with a school in Spain for students to write to pen-friends.
