Key Stage 5
Students at Key Stage 5 have three options when studying Business; to choose A-Level Business studies , Applied Business Studies or as part of the International Baccalaureate as Business and management . Both A-level and applied subjects are equally equivalent in A-level points. The differences are as follows;
A-Level Business Studies
The OCR A-Level in Business studies is a fantastic qualification, looking to develop a critical understanding of how organisations meet society’s needs and wants. The qualification gives students the opportunity to develop a range of skills, generate enterprising and creative solutions to business problems, and to gain enthusiasm for studying business.
This course is 100% exam. Students sit two exams in year 12 and two exams in year 13.

Applied Business Studies
The Edexcel GCE Applied Business is a broad-based qualification that provides the opportunity for students to explore the world of business in a highly practical way. By adopting an investigative approach, students develop a range of skills while discovering the problems and opportunities faced by businesses.
It is the vocational focus of this qualification which encourages students to develop an understanding of how business works in the real world. Students are encouraged to take part in practical activities such as planning and running a business, organising a major event, holding a board meeting to demonstrate effective teamwork, designing a new product for a global company and undertaking a personal development plan.
This course consists of 60% coursework and 40% exam.
